Award-Winning Gadget Means Less Energy and Better Environment-Sunday 14th of May 2006 11:11:00An innovative device designed to encourage a reduction in electricity consumption is being made available to people in the UK for the first time. The Electrisave is a portable monitor that allows users to manage their electricity usage in real-time. The device is the brain child of Australian inventor, Ross Halliwell, and has been introduced to the UK market by North East-based businessman, John Lane. The device- which has won a collection of awards in Australia already- combines a simple clip-on sensor, which can be installed in any household or office metre box, and a portable monitor. The monitor displays in real-time how much electricity is being used in pence per hour and is sensitive enough to record the savings made by switching of even a 20 watt light. John Lane said: “I was so impressed at how much electricity Ross was saving and how educated he and his family were becoming about their environment that I decided to try the Electrisave for myself. I couldn’t believe that in such a short space of time I managed to save 25% on my household bills. Within months my family had completely changed their behaviour towards electricity consumption and wastage.” Melissa Hardy, Operations Director for Electrisave, said: “The Electrisave is designed to educate users about their electricity consumption. The device puts the power back in the hands of the consumer providing them with immediate information about what they’re spending on electricity in their homes and offices.” She continued: “The launch of the Electrisave in the UK has come at a very appropriate time with the G8 talks last month constantly hitting the headlines and climate change is certainly a major issue for world leaders. One of the main reasons that we wanted to bring the Electrisave to the UK was because of the environmental benefits it can have. The small, simple device gives everybody the chance to play their part in protecting the environment.” ENDS
