Vehicle Rental Company Clears the Air-Sunday 14th of May 2006 11:13:08Stockton-based Reflex Vehicle Solutions, one of the UK’s fastest-growing vehicle rental companies, is to ban smoking in all of its vehicles ahead of a change in the law both in Scotland, where the company has a base, and in the UK. In Scotland smoking will be banned in all public premises including workplaces and work vehicles from 6am on March 26th. Anyone caught smoking could face a £50 fixed penalty fine and managers could be forced to pay up to £200 if they allow others to smoke in their vehicles or if they fail to display no-smoking notices. Although the law doesn’t change in England until next year, managers at Reflex have decided to ban smoking in all of their vehicles not only to comply with new regulations, but also to protect the health of their staff and customers and due to the nature of Reflex’s business. Graeme Lumley, sales director at Reflex, explained: “At Reflex we’re always looking to make sure our customers are aware of any changes in the law that will affect them. “Although the smoking ban only becomes law in Scotland from March 26th we feel that it is in both our staff and customer’s best interests to advertise the smoking ban in all of our commercial vehicles. After all the nature of our business means that our vehicles could be used in Scotland at any point.” Reflex, whose clients include Curry, Dixons and ParcelForce, is based at Preston Farm industrial estate and has service delivery sites in Middlesbrough, Glasgow and close to the M25 in London. The company, which has a 2000-strong fleet, currently employs 22 people on Teesside and is on target to double this figure in the coming year. ENDS |
