Ready, Teddy, Go For New Teesside Business-Sunday 28th of May 2006 10:17:12Hartley Bear’s Emporium, one of the UK’s leading teddy bear retailers, has launched its first store on Teesside. Following the success of the Leyburn, North Yorkshire, shop the company has opened on Yarm High Street. Over £40,000 has been invested in the new premises and so far three jobs have been created with more planned for the coming year. Hartley Bear’s Emporium was established more than a decade ago in Leyburn and sells high quality bears and related gifts to both collectors and non-collectors all over the world thanks to its sophisticated on-line shop. Julie Nichol, from Sadberge, bought Hartley Bear’s Emporium in 2004 following the birth of her first child. Julie has worked to expand the company, which specialises in Steiff, Merrythought, Boyd’s, Dean’s and Hermann bears as well as character bears and gifts. Hartley Bears’ Emporium in Yarm is set across three floors at its High Street premises. The ground floor is home to a variety of collectable bears, gift bears and ‘Artist Bears’ which are one-off designs and have been made by local, North East-based artists. The second floor will open later in the summer and will specialise in Christmas ornaments, bears and gifts. The third floor of the premises is currently used as office space for the company. Speaking about the expansion of her business, Julie Nichol commented: “Hartley Bear’s Emporium is itself an already well-established business and that, combined with the Yarm location, convinced me that I should expand into the Tees Valley. “Yarm High Street is a popular shopping destination which is already synonymous with unique products and designer brands. Hartley Bear’s Emporium brings a different product to the area but teddy bears are something that appeal to all types of people. I believe that we are filling a niche in the market and I am delighted by the response we have had since moving to Yarm.” For more details about the shop, and for on-line shopping, visit http://www.hartleybears.co.uk . |
