New Bar Brings Style, Sophistication and Jobs to Darlington-Tuesday 22nd of August 2006 16:36:15A stylish, new venue which has seen almost a £1 million worth of investment has opened in Darlington. Indaba, which is located on Gladstone Street in the town, has opened on the site of a former swimming pool and will provide Darlington with a luxury bar venue for over-21s. The new 3,700 square feet development has created over 40 jobs so far and has seen in the region of £700,000 being invested in the refurbishment, both inside and outside, of the building. Local design company, Flipside, has come up with elegant interior of Indaba, which literally translated from its South African tribal origins means ‘important meeting place’. Rachel Webber, director of Indaba, commented: “We have totally transformed the run-down building to create a brand new concept in eating and drinking for Darlington. We wanted to create an independent venue that the town so far hasn’t had itself but can easily be enjoyed in cities close by, such as Leeds and Newcastle. Thousands of pounds have been spent on ensuring that the comfortable, contemporary surroundings make Indaba a relaxing place to come both during the day and at night.” As well as ambient lighting, muted colours, comfortable sofas set across two floors and a sun terrace overlooking North Lodge Park, thousands of pounds has been invested in state-of-the-art security cameras. Rachel added: “The safety of our customers is paramount hence we have installed CCTV cameras both inside and outside of the building. Those driving to Indaba will have their cars monitored by our staff and customers can be escorted to their vehicles at the end of the evening if they wish. Thanks to our security measures we have been granted a 3.00am license for Monday to Saturday and a 1am licence for a Sunday.” In addition, to accommodate those wanting to use Indaba for business purposes, food can be pre-ordered and the venue has been fitted with data ports for the use of lap tops. Booths are also available for private parties. Indaba will be open from 11am seven days a week. All of the food is freshly prepared on site and kitchen staff are working closely with local farmers to ensure that all dishes are of the highest quality using local produce. |
